Security Roles

In Oracle Insurance Rules Workbench, Security Roles are created and managed from the Security Role folder under Palette Security in the Navigation Explorer. Security roles allow administrators to define and assign specific sets of privileges, governing user access and permitted actions. Refer to the Rules Palette Security section for details on Release Management Security Roles.

Search a Security Role

  1. In the Navigation Explorer (left panel), navigate to Security | Palette Security folder.

  2. Click the Palette Security folder to expand it.

  3. Select the Security Role file. This opens the Security Roles Configuration Area on the right panel.

  4. Scroll through the role list, or:

    • Use the Filter option at the top of the roles list to locate a specific role.

    • Enter portion of the role name in the filter field to display matching results.

  5. The role list can be sorted by clicking the Roles column header.

Create a New Security Role

  1. In the Navigation Explorer (left panel), navigate to Security | Palette Security folder.

  2. Click the Palette Security folder to expand it.

  3. Select the Security Roles file. This opens the Security Roles Configuration Area on the right panel.

  4. In the top-right corner of the Panel, click the Add new button.

  5. A new editable row appears in the grid.

    1. Enter the Role name.

    2. Click the icon to commit, or X icon to cancel.

      Note: This action does not save the role to the database yet. The entry moves to the confirmation state.

    3. The role now appears in the list (highlighted).

    4. Assign privileges to the Role:

      • Click the role name (hyperlink) in the Roles column to open the Privileges assignment window.

      • In the List shuttle:

        • Select desired privileges from the Available Privileges list.

        • Use the > or >> arrow icons to move items from the Available Privileges panel to the Assigned Privileges panel.

        • Use the < or << arrow icons to move items from the Assigned Privileges panel back to the Available Privileges panel.

      • Once privileges are assigned, return to the main configuration area by closing the Privileges assignment window.

    5. On the main screen, additional icons appear in the Actions column

      • Pencil: Reopen the row for editing.

      • Delete: Remove the role entirely.

      • Save: Save the new role to the database.

      • Revert: Discards recent changes and restores the original state.

    6. Click Save Row icon. The new role is added to the table grid.

    7. The list can be sorted by clicking the Roles column header, and the Filter field can be used to locate a specific role.

  6. Click the X at the top right of the Security Role tab to close the panel when finished.

Edit a Security Role

  1. In the Navigation Explorer (left panel), navigate to Security | Palette Security.

  2. Click the Palette Security folder to expand it.

  3. Select the Security Roles file. This opens the Security Roles Configuration Area on the right panel.

  4. Scroll through the list or use the Filter field to locate the role to edit.

  5. To modify a security role:

    1. Role Name:

      • Click the pencil icon under the Actions column for the corresponding role. The row becomes editable.

      • Modify the Role Name as necessary.

      • Click the icon to confirm the change, or X to cancel.

      Note: This action does not save the changes yet; the row moves to the confirmation state.

    2. Privileges:

      • Click the role name (hyperlink) under Roles column to open the Privileges assignment window.

      • Select desired privileges from the Available Privileges list.

      • Use the > or >> arrow icons to move items from the Available Privileges panel to the Assigned Privileges panel.

      • Use the < or << arrow icons to move items from the Assigned Privileges panel back to the Available Privileges panel.

      • Once privileges are updated, return to the main configuration area by closing the Privileges assignment window.

  6. After confirming, additional icons appear in the Actions column:

    • Pencil: Reopen the row for editing.

    • Delete: Remove the user entirely.

    • Save: Finalize and apply the changes to the database.

    • Revert: Discard recent modifications and revert to the original state.

  7. Click Save Row icon.

  8. Click the X at the right of the Security Role tab to close the panel when finished.

Delete a Security Role

  1. In the Navigation Explorer (left panel), navigate to Security | Palette Security.

  2. Click the Palette Security folder to expand it.

  3. Select the Security Role file. This opens the Security Role Configuration Area on the right panel.

  4. Scroll through the list or use the Filter option to locate the role to be deleted.

  5. To delete:

    1. Click the Delete Row icon under the Actions column for the selected role.

    2. Confirm deletion when prompted: "Are you sure, you want to delete Security Role:[Role Name]?" Select OK to confirm or Cancel to abort.

  6. Click the X at the top right of the Security Role tab to close the panel when finished.

    Important: A security role cannot be deleted while it is assigned to users. If deletion is attempted, an error message is displayed.
